February is American Heart Month!   Please help support WomenHeart in your local are to help spread awareness about the dangers of heart disease in women.

If you’re a woman, you may not believe you’re as vulnerable to a heart attack as men–but you are. Women account for nearly half of all heart attack deaths. Heart disease is the number one killer of both women and men.

There are differences in how women and men respond to a heart attack. Women are less likely than men to believe they’re having a heart attack and more likely to delay in seeking emergency treatment.

Further, women tend to be about 10 years older than men when they have a heart attack. They are more likely to have other conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and congestive heart failure–making it all the more vital that they get proper treatment fast.

HeartScarves Project

WomenHeart is pleased to announce the re-development and launch of the popular HeartScarves program. This unique – and very heart-felt initiative – is now a packaged kit that contains everything you need to make beautiful scarves for women suffering with heart disease. Learn more about HeartScarves!

Closed Thursday

I’m staying home today to help dig out.

We’re waiting for the snow plow still, and I have to help clear snow from the roof.  We have a leak in the kitchen from melting snow from the roof of the sunroom.

Joy.

I’ll see you all bright and early on Friday!

More snow!

February 9th, 2010

Huge thanks goes out to Glowing Kay for needing a yarn fix early, she opened up the shop at 10.  I guess she wasn’t the only one, since we had a store full when I got here at 11. :O)  Since the government is closed again today, the husband is home with all the kids (they seem to multiply in snow, I thought we only had 2!)

I’m staying open until 5 today, or it starts snowing really hard, whichever comes first.  Thanks to the county sending out a frontloader yesterday afternoon, I could get off my street, but it was a bit hairy sliding into Frederick Rd on the patches of ice that were all over.  I’m not looking forward to trying to get uphill in that tonight!

Remember to stay warm and safe for the next two days!

Another 7 - 10 inches.  JOY!

Snowmageddon!

February 8th, 2010

I’m hoping everyone is having a great and safe snow day, and everyone got some great knitting time in!

I’m still stranded at home.  We’re praying we see a plow sometime today or tomorrow morning.  There’s only so much my truck can get through, and since I live uphill both ways, we have to wait for the plows to get out to the main road.

Here’s hoping I see you all tomorrow!

Stay warm and safe!

Yay snow!!!

February 5th, 2010

I’m hoping it’s a real snwstorm, and we get the expected snowfall.  Since it’s looking good, I’ll be closed Saturday, so I can stay home and knit.

I hope everyone has enough yarn to get them through the weekend.

Can’t believe how many great folks I’ve met this last year.  It had it’s ups and downs, but all the love and support I got from you guys made it all worth it!

Here’s to you!

January 30th, 2010

The following is a huge thank you to all who donated scarves for the pancake house!  You all ROCK!!

January 17, 2010

The Original Pancake House

Thank you to all the knitters and crocheters.

Our Christmas day breakfast was a big success.  We served over 475 guests.  Everyone enjoyed their breakfast and especially enjoyed receiving the beautiful scarves that you all knitted for them.

The tremendous effort put out by all of you was way beyond anything we expected.  A total of close to seven hundred scarves were knitted.  The scarves that were not given out on Christmas morning were sent to various shelters and organizations that serve the less fortunate populations of our communities.  They were so beautiful and well done that some of the volunteers wanted to buy them (not for sale!).

Our special thanks to Kathryn Winsberg, Stacey Rabinovitz and Kathleen Stobie for their help.  With out them we would never have achieved such success.

Thank you again,

Jeff and Jane Bulman

Sneaking out early

January 28th, 2010

Tonight is my eldest first strings recital.  First year strings, for those of you not in the know, is a painful half hour of Mary Had a Little Lamb, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, and a third little tune usually involving the plucking of the strings.  Painful.

Since the only excuse I can think of to get out of the torture is a trip to the hospital, I’m sneaking out early to get to the concert on time.

Believe it or not, I’m really looking forward to it, and will be the proud momma sitting in the front with the recorder on!

I’ll be here until 6:30.

See you tomorrow!
